The city, which is often considered the twin sister of Dallas, boasts a more relaxed, laid-back atmosphere compared to Dallas’ more high-energy vibe. A visit to this city will reveal numerous fun things to do – whether you’re interested in the arts, history or outdoor activities

For art lovers, there are plenty of galleries and museums to explore in the Cultural District including the renowned Modern Art Museum.

The Fort Worth Zoo makes for an exciting day out on its own. It’s perfect if you want to watch animals in their habitats and learn all about exotic species from around the world. If speed and thrills excite you more, then make sure to visit the famous Texas Motor Speedway which draws race fans from all across the country.

History buffs can take a step back in time in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. At Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, you can drive through the property on your own or book a guided tour on one of their vehicles where you’ll learn a whole bunch from your guides along the way. Dinosaur Valley State Park includes a riverbed with fossilized dinosaur footprints at the bottom. Depending on the water levels, you can either stand or swim where these amazing creatures once were.

Glen Rose is also known as the Moonshine Capital of Texas. Learn all about the industry’s history at the Somervell County Museum or stop by to admire the Old Rock Gas Station. It was rumored to have been a regular stop for Bonnie and Clyde during Prohibition when this building once served as a moonshine distribution site.

Tyler (1.5 hours)

Tyler, known as the Rose Capital of America, is an easy day trip from Dallas and a must-visit for flower enthusiasts. It proudly houses the largest municipal rose garden in the country: the stunning Tyler Rose Garden. Every year, Tyler hosts the renowned Texas Rose Festival, but roses are not the only attraction here.

Springtime also brings an enchanting display of blooming azaleas along the Tyler Azalea Trail. This delightful walking tour offers visitors a glimpse into some of Tyler’s most exquisite residential gardens adorned with vibrant blooms.

Denison & Lake Texoma (1 hour, 40 minutes)

Begin your visit to Denison at the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site where you’ll delve into the early life of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States. For those who appreciate art, a visit to the Denison Art & Cultural District is essential, as it boasts numerous galleries and captivating murals.

Just a short distance from Denison lies Lake Texoma, one of America’s largest reservoirs. Here, you can indulge in an array of water-based activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming. The lake also offers several campgrounds for those seeking an extended stay.

If you have a fondness for nature and wildlife, embark on a hike along the Cross Timbers Trail at Lake Texoma to witness native plants and perhaps even catch sight of deer, wild turkeys or majestic bald eagles. Caddo Lake State Park & Uncertain TX (2.5 hours)

In the same area as Jefferson is the enchanting Caddo Lake State Park.

The highlight of the park is undoubtedly its namesake — Caddo Lake. This expansive lake boasts over 50 miles of paddling trails through bayous and ponds filled with cypress trees draped in Spanish moss. It’s truly one of the greatest day trips to be had in Texas. Consider the following water activities while you’re there:

Rental Canoes: If you don’t own your own canoe or kayak, fear not! The park provides rental canoes that allow everyone to explore this watery wonderland at their leisure.
Fishing: With more than 70 varieties of fish swimming beneath its surface. It’s no surprise that fishing is a popular activity at Caddo Lake. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just want to try your hand at catching dinner, there are plenty of opportunities here!

Beyond the state park is Uncertain TX. Make a stop at Dick and Charlie’s Tea Room, a historic building that once operated as a speakeasy during Prohibition. Despite its worn-out appearance, this fascinating structure near Caddo Lake provides visitors with a captivating window into the region’s intriguing history.

Georgetown (2.5 hours)

The heart of Georgetown lies in its beautifully preserved historic downtown square. Here, you can spend your day watching the world go by from one of their many cafes or explore unique shops. When you get to Austin, get ready for a bunch of awesome stuff to do. The city is all about music, with tons of places to catch live performances, especially on Sixth Street.

When the Keystone Hotel and the Hanna Springs Bathhouse were originally erected in the early 19th century, visitors flocked to Lampasas for its healing mineral waters.

Houston is one of the awesome drivable places from Dallas, and it’s not too far away—just about 4 hours on Highway 45.

Once you get to Houston, you’ve got tons of stuff to do for the whole weekend! One of the coolest things is the Space Center Houston, where you can learn all about space exploration and even see where astronauts train.

The Museum District is another must-visit spot, with fancy museums like the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Museum of Fine Arts. Houston is a big city, the fourth-largest in the country, so you’ll see lots of tall buildings downtown. But don’t worry, there are also plenty of parks, cool neighborhoods, and diverse communities to explore, showing off Houston’s mix of modernity and southern charm.

Oklahoma City (3 hours 45 minutes)

You won’t understand the vibrancy and culture of Oklahoma City until you experience it for yourself, so get packin’!

San Antonio is famous for the Alamo, a big symbol of Texas history. But there’s a lot more to see! You can wander along the River Walk downtown, which is super pretty and has lots of places to eat, shop, and just take a nice stroll.

If you head to Market Square, you’ll find a bunch of colorful shops and fun stuff going on, showing off the city’s Hispanic culture. San Antonio is also known for its arts scene, yummy food, and awesome festivals like Fiesta.
