Top Texas Spring Break Getaways You Can’t Miss

Spring Break  is just around the corner, and if you’re like me, you’re already dreaming of sunshine, fun adventures, and that much-needed break. Texas is one of the best spring break getaways out there, offering something for everyone. Whether you’re a group of spring breakers looking for excitement or someone craving a peaceful escape, you’ll find the perfect place here. From vibrant city escapes to stunning beach trips and nature retreats, Texas sets the stage for a good time.

I’m excited to share my favorite spots to inspire your next unforgettable spring break adventure!

City Escapes

Austin

Austin is always a wonderful idea, especially in the spring! The weather is perfect for kayaking on Lady Bird Lake, hiking at Mount Bonnell, and there are plenty of camping sites and state parks near Austin. You can also stroll around South Congress for shopping and food truck bites. At night, hit up Sixth Street or Rainey Street for live music. And if you’re staying overnight (which you totally should), a boutique hotel downtown will make the trip even better.

Check out our review of The Otis Hotel, the perfect place for your stay.

Houston

Houston has it all—big-city vibes with plenty of outdoor fun. I’d spend my day exploring the Museum District, taking in an Astros game at Minute Maid Park, or strolling through Hermann Park. A visit to Space Center Houston is a must! For a weekend trip, I’d stay in style at the Laura Hotel in downtown Houston to be close to all the action. And of course, I’d grab some BBQ or Tex-Mex while I’m here—because Houston’s food scene is top-tier.

San Antonio

San Antonio is one of my favorite spots for a mix of history and relaxation. Walking along the San Antonio River Walk is a must, especially at night when it’s all lit up. I’d also recommend spending some time exploring Market Square for vibrant shopping, local eats, and a taste of the city’s culture. Of course, I’d definitely stop by the Alamo (because, well, it’s the Alamo!), and if I have much time, I’d head to the Natural Bridge Caverns for an unforgettable underground adventure. To cool off, the San Antonio Botanical Garden is a perfect spot.

If I’m staying the night, I’d book Hotel Havana which is just steps away from the renowned River Walk and a stroll from the city’s effervescent downtown.

Dallas

Dallas has the perfect mix of city excitement and laid-back fun. I’d start my day at Klyde Warren Park, visit the Dallas World Aquarium, and maybe catch a game at the American Airlines Center. Deep Ellum is my go-to for cool murals, live music, and great food. For a longer trip, I’d stay in Uptown or near Bishop Arts District to get the full Dallas experience. You can check this Instagram-worthy airbnb in Dallas for your stay.

Fort Worth

Fort Worth gives me the best of both worlds—big-city excitement with a laid-back cowboy vibe, making it a top destination for anyone looking for a unique Texas experience. I’d start at the Stockyards, where I can watch a real cattle drive, grab some Texas-style BBQ, and two-step at Billy Bob’s. It’s a spot the whole family can enjoy, with so much to see and do. If I’m feeling artsy, I’d head to the cultural attractions like the Kimbell Art Museum or spend some time surrounded by nature at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.

Also, a stay in this 1920s-styled luxury hotel in Fort Worth is definitely worth it.

Waco

Waco is an easy and fun spring break stop. I’d visit Magnolia Market (because, let’s be real, I want to see what all the hype is about), check out the Dr. Pepper Museum, and walk across the historic Waco Suspension Bridge. If I’m up for outdoor fun, Cameron Park is perfect for hiking and biking.

Outdoor & Small-Hill Country Town Adventures

San Marcos

San Marcos is my go-to for a chill but fun spring break. The San Marcos River is perfect for tubing, and the weather in March is just right. If I need a break from the water, I’d hit up the outlet malls for some shopping. Glamping in Mosaic Farms’ Cozy Camper in San Marcos TX, makes this trip extra fun.

Johnson City

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape, Johnson City is the place to be. I’d visit a few wineries along the 290 Wine Trail, stop by the Science Mill, and spend the evening stargazing at the LBJ Ranch. It’s one of the best places in Texas to see the night sky!

And if you prefer a glamping retreat, check out Johnny Yurts for a peaceful hill country escape.

Concan

Concan is all about the great outdoors and soaking in the beauty of the Texas Hill Country. Spring break is the perfect time to explore its outdoor activities, like hiking along a nature trail in Garner State Park or kayaking and swimming in the crystal-clear Frio River. If I’m feeling adventurous, I’d try horseback riding or even zip-lining through the surrounding area to get a whole new view of this gorgeous destination.

Staying in a riverside cabin like The Inn Between  or camping under the stars takes the trip to another level of amazing.

Junction

Junction is one of those hidden gems that’s perfect for a quiet getaway. I’d spend my days kayaking on the South Llano River, hiking at South Llano River State Park, or just relaxing in nature. There are also a lot of hidden swimming spots in Junction, Texas, that you should explore.

Beach Destinations

South Padre Island

South Padre Island is a great place for a classic spring break by the beach. It’s lively, fun, and buzzing with energy! I love how there’s always something happening, from beach parties to live music festivals. Plus, the water activities are endless—anything from jet skiing to parasailing. The beaches are gorgeous, with soft sand and blue water, perfect for soaking up the sun.

Whether you’re looking to party or just want a fun beach getaway, South Padre is hard to beat.

Galveston Island

Galveston Island has this amazing mix of beach vibes and historic charm, making it an excellent choice for spring break. It’s the kind of place that’s perfect for a road trip with friends or family. I enjoy spending time on the beach, but the Strand Historic District is one of my favorite spots—filled with cute shops, local eats, and a touch of history. For families, the Pleasure Pier is always a hit with its fun rides and games. And if you’re up for a little adventure, the dolphin-watching tours are an absolute blast!

Port Aransas

If you’re like me and love a more laid-back beach vibe, Port Aransas is the perfect escape. With its sandy beaches and relaxed atmosphere, it’s an excellent place to kick back and unwind. This charming town is a popular destination for spring breakers who want to avoid the big crowds but still enjoy the beauty of the coast. I love driving along the beach, trying my hand at sandcastle building, or even going deep-sea fishing. It’s super family-friendly, yet there’s plenty for solo travelers and couples, too.

Staying for a night or two lets you fully soak in the peaceful setting, fresh seafood, and unforgettable sunsets. Port Aransas really is a spring break getaway you won’t want to miss.
