Bellville (2 hrs)
Bellville, situated roughly two hours from Austin, is known for Newman’s Castle, where you can actually wander the grounds of a castle! Apart from that, there are some small wineries, a place to forge your own knife, and a quaint downtown.
Bryan (2 hrs)
Bryan offers everything you need for a perfect day trip! Start your visit with a tour of the Messina Hof Winery. Here, you can enjoy a cellar tour followed by a wine tasting session. Next, explore the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History. This is where you can delve into the rich heritage and diverse natural history of the region.

Cartoon Saloon (2 hrs)
Cartoon Saloon, a unique roadside attraction, is a must-see when traveling in this region. This whimsical country wonderland is everything you associate with Texas, created by the Cartoon Cowboy and his friends.
Here, you can wander around the different buildings, take pictures, and even meet the people who created them. They will likely even have beer on-site for a donation. This is a quick little road trip that is great to mix in with nearby towns, including Sisterdale.

San Antonio (2 hrs 15 min)
San Antonio, my home town, is quickly becoming more and more of a tourist attraction and one of the best places to visit for a day trip (although truthfully, we think you need a whole week at least).
The highlight is the River Walk, a vibrant waterfront promenade lined with a multitude of shops, restaurants, and bars. For nature enthusiasts, the San Antonio Botanical Garden showcases an impressive array of plant life across its 38 acres. The San Antonio Zoo, home to over 750 species, makes for a fun-filled family outing.
Art lovers should make a point to visit the San Antonio Museum of Art, which boasts a diverse collection of works. To cap off your day, consider a stroll through the historic King William District, known for its beautiful, preserved, old homes, or catch a memorable performance at the Majestic Theatre.
Victoria (2 hrs 15 min)
Start your day by visiting Victoria‘s Museum of the Coastal Bend, where you can immerse yourself in the region’s history and indigenous heritage. For nature lovers, the Riverside Park and Rose Garden is a must-visit, showcasing beautiful flora across its 562 acres. You can also enjoy walking, picnicking, or even paddle boating in the park.

Embark on your Waco adventure by first visiting the renowned Dr. Pepper Museum, which honors the beloved Texas-born soda with an array of fascinating exhibits. The Cameron Park Zoo, set in a natural habitat, offers an opportunity to observe a wide range of animals. Our favorite is the otter slide. This clear slide allows you to watch the otters swim around you on all sides as you slide down.
Of course, there is Magnolia Market at the Silos, owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper,” is a must-visit for its unique shopping experience and delicious on-site bakery. Wrap up your day by walking along the beautiful Brazos Riverwalk, which offers stunning views of the river and the city.
Hico (2.5 hrs)
Begin your exploration of Hico at the Billy the Kid Museum and delve into the intriguing myth versus fact story of the notorious outlaw. Next, take a walk around the historic downtown, where you’ll find an array of specialty shops, antique stores, and local eateries. Castroville (2 hrs 45 min)

Sugarland, only a three-hour drive from Austin, is a vibrant city bursting with attractions that cater to all ages and interests. Begin your day with a visit to the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land, an offshoot of the famed Houston Museum with exhibits ranging from dinosaur fossils to gemstones.
If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, Sugar Land Memorial Park and the Brazos River Corridor promise a variety of recreational activities in beautifully natural settings. The park boasts a large lake, a dog park, and several miles of trails for walking or cycling.
