The Texas Hill Country, famous for its picturesque rolling landscapes and thriving wine regions, offers a delightful experience during the summer months. With historic sites dotting the landscape, the region offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty. In late summer, many vineyards will start placing nets over the grapes, and after harvest, they can look pretty sparse. It’s the unique charm of the surrounding area that tempts us to endure the heat.

So go ahead and take a look at the best wineries in Fredericksburg to visit during the summer—you’re in for a treat with the fantastic vistas and exquisite tastes awaiting you.

Explore Texas like never before with the newest edition of our Texas Travel Guide. With this guide in hand, you can embark on thrilling weekend getaways without emptying your wallet, leaving you with plenty of opportunities for even more adventures! This travel guide also includes a section on Fredericksburg, as well as the Texas Wine Trail

Kuhlman Cellars

Our first winery on the list is Kuhlman Cellars. This beautiful winery has year-round beauty, but before July 4th is the best time. You can sit on their upstairs patio, looking out onto the acres of vineyards, while still enjoying the shade and fans to keep it cool.

Kuhlman Cellars is the only winery that uses Sur-leis, which creates the wine’s creamy texture. They were even placed in the prestigious Concours de Lyon International Competition in France as the only winery in Texas to do so.

Ab Astris

If you’re willing to beat the heat, enjoy a nice glass of wine at Ab Astris which focuses mainly on tannat grapes. This smaller, off-the-beaten-path winery, which translates to “from the stars” in Latin, is fairly new.

There are large oak trees to catch some shade from the sun. There’s regular live music on Saturdays and a nice, relaxing vibe. It is definitely one of my favorite wineries to visit, not just in the summer.

Becker Vineyards

Becker Vineyards isn’t just a great place to visit; it’s a destination that captures the heart with its captivating estate vineyards and the rich, robust notes of its celebrated cabernet sauvignon. Renowned for more than just its vines, the winery is a hub for special events too, like the annual lavender festival held in April 2024.

Visitors can also marvel at the vibrant zinnias that bloom throughout summer and fall, adding a splash of color to the already picturesque setting. For the best floral displays, keep an eye on their social media to visit at the peak of bloom.

With such breathtaking scenery all around you, we advise booking a table right by the vines so you can fully enjoy the tranquil setting while sipping on a glass of their finest wine.

You can stroll through the enchanting gardens, shop for garden décor and wildflower seeds at their market center, or stop by the Brewbonnet Biergarten for a refreshing pint of locally brewed beer.

Highlighting the experience is their beautiful tasting room, where the ambience is as delightful as the wines themselves.

Moreover, they host several events throughout the year, including butterfly and hummingbird festivals that are truly a sight to behold.
