Located in historic downtown San Marcos is the Downtown Abbey (click here to book), a San Marcos property by Mosaic Farms (click here to learn more). This tri-plex contains multiple, creatively decorated lodging options that simultaneously maintain the area’s integrity and charm.

The Quirky & Spacious Interior

When it comes to a building with this much history, quirks are guaranteed (and warmly welcomed). To start, the Great Hall’s exterior is painted in a shade of green that changes with the daylight. We loved the distinguished church steeple and the tiny shingles reminiscent of fish scales above one of the exterior windows.

After stepping inside, you’ll immediately be captivated by the stained glass windows and intentional, antique furniture choices. This spacious accommodation is perfect for large families, with three bedrooms that can comfortably sleep up to eight guests.

This place is huge, but if you’re looking for a place to stay by the same owners that accommodates fewer people, Mosaic Farms has several other places to stay around San Marcos, including the Bohemian Hill Country A-Frame (a home that sleeps 5) and the Lula Camper (a glamping option that sleeps 2).

Living Room

The living area at the Great Hall is furnished with multiple couches and chairs for ample seating for everyone. It’s the perfect spot to collect everyone together and watch a movie or play games.

Kitchen & Dining Room

To complement the large living room, the dining room is furnished with a long dining table, eight chairs, and plenty of space for glasses of wine, multiple tasty dishes, or several pizza boxes if you’re not looking to cook. It’s adorned with pops of blue and regal bookshelves, making for a vibrant place to share a meal and forego the clean-up while you chat.

My favorite parts about the kitchen were the pink cabinets, the columns above the sink that look into the living room, and the stark white, tile countertops.

This well-equipped kitchen also boasts modern amenities such as a full fridge, oven, coffee maker, microwave, and a convenient washer and dryer. This ensures that guests have all the comforts of home during their stay. However, if you don’t feel like cooking, the property is conveniently located near San Marcos and its best restaurants.

The Bedrooms

Each of the three bedrooms in the Great Hall have their own color schemes and are furnished with their own array of vintage chairs, framed pictures, and lamp shades. The downstairs bedrooms feature lots of natural light that floods the room and highlights the beautiful hardwood floors.

The primary downstairs bedroom exudes romance and also plays with shades of deep blue. However, it’s the upstairs loft area that steals the show for me. With a cozy TV space and a comfortable daybed, it’s the perfect spot to collect everyone and unwind after conquering San Marcos.

The bedroom in the loft boasts these lovely floral patterned curtains and an elegant gold bed frame. The bay window is my favorite touch, an inviting nook for reading or sipping your coffee.

The Pet Policy

Unfortunately, the Great Hall at the Downtown Abbey doesn’t allow pets, but if you’re looking for a pet-friendly property, look into booking the Lula Camper or Bohemian Hill Country Cottage.

The Great Hall at the Downtown Abbey: Final Thoughts
