Free Date Ideas in San Antonio for Couples

Walk Around the Riverwalk

The San Antonio River Walk is always bustling with people, lights, ducks swimming around, and sometimes live music. You never know what you might come across while taking a leisurely stroll. One day, we made the whole loop around the river circle, and it was fun to see how the area changed from a crowded, touristy area with vendors and restaurants beckoning you inside to a more serene and natural area.

Visit The Alamo

Just a stone’s throw away from the vibrant River Walk sits the legendary Alamo – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is an absolute must-visit on your San Antonio’s free activities mission. Once a Spanish mission, this iconic landmark played a pivotal role in the Texas Revolution. It has a story as complex and fascinating as the structure itself.

Come and explore the Alamo’s multifaceted history, and experience the awe-inspiring presence of this powerful symbol of San Antonio’s heritage. While there’s no admission fee to enter the Alamo, a timed reservation is required. However, you can elevate your Alamo experience to new heights by enjoying guided tours or special experiences available for a fraction of the price.

Visit the Japanese Tea Gardens

That’s right! These beautiful gardens are free while having every element of a romantic date! Imagine strolling through a picturesque garden with lush greenery surrounded by vibrant flowers, shaded walkways, and picturesque stone bridges. As you walk, you’ll be serenaded by the soothing sound of a magnificent 60-foot waterfall and the sight of graceful Koi swimming in tranquil ponds.

Catch a Performance at Market Square

Market Square is a three-block outdoor plaza in downtown San Antonio with a diverse lineup of shops and restaurants. As the largest Mexican market in the United States, it’s a paradise for shopaholics and foodies. A lot is happening here, but weekends are busier with more activity, farmers markets, street artists, and live music.

Inside, there are often performers like Flamenco dancers. Plus, it’s fun to check out all the colorful items being sold from all of the different vendors.

Check out Local Art at Ruby City

Ruby City is a contemporary art center that showcases an impressive collection of more than 1,400 paintings, sculptures, installations, and videoworks from the Linda Pace Foundation. It’s a fun date idea for art enthusiasts who want to explore and experience the works of both local and internationally acclaimed artists while spending quality time together. Plus, there is a beautiful park to stroll through with another fun and interactive exhibit.

Visit the San Antonio Missions

Of course, there’s the famous Alamo. However, you’ll also want to check out the other stunning missions. Make a day of visiting them all! You can rent a B-Bike and bike all the missions for a couple of extra dollars! To this day, this is one of my favorite activities!

Bring a picnic or grab some takeout from a restaurant and find the perfect grassy knoll to share, perhaps along the Riverwalk. Or go in search of the best sunset views in San Antonio. Some great ones include Hays Street Bridge and Comanche Park. Alamo Beer Company and other local attractions and restaurants are within walking distance of Hays Street Bridge.

Go for a Hike

Couples looking for workouts or active date ideas can spend hours talking while exploring San Antonio’s natural beauty. Some great places for a hike include Mission Reach, Brackenridge Park, Eisenhower Park, Friedrich Wilderness Park, O.P.
