With temperatures maintaining an average of 65 degrees for the winter months in San Antonio, don’t let the “Netflix and Chill” temptation miss all the excitement Alamo City offers in winter. Reflecting on my personal experience of what to expect from San Antonio in the colder months, I can assure you that there won’t be a dull moment even if you plan a month-long winter getaway in San Antonio.

Whether wandering through illuminated gardens, diving into history at historic missions, or enjoying thrilling rides at Six Flags Fiesta, something here will warm your heart and spirit. Here are some of the best places to visit and things to do in San Antonio in winter.

Explore the Depths at Natural Bridge Caverns

Natural Bridge Caverns, a short drive from downtown San Antonio, offers an exciting underground adventure perfect for escaping the chilly weather. From Five nationally renowned Underground Cavern tours, where you can walk through two amazing expertly lit and carefully preserved rock formations to discover Hidden Caverns, to Four Above Ground fun activities, including six-story tall Twisted Trails, a zip rail and ropes challenge course, a 5,000 sq ft outdoor maze, and a fantastic Ranch Roundup you can find the perfect combination of natural beauty and fun at Natural Bridge Caverns.

After the excitement, enjoy fresh pizza, brisket nachos, beer, wine, and lemonade at Big Daddy’s Eats Sweets and Drinks, or take a seat at Cavern Café in the visitor’s center for house-smoked Brisket Grilled Cheese, Buffalo Chicken Wraps, fresh salads, chicken strips, or burgers. Christmas at Natural Bridge Caverns is also quite an affair unlike anywhere else with a well-lit 30-foot Christmas tree, a 1/3-mile trail of lights, Santa’s reindeer ride in a 5000 square foot outdoor maze, Ice Skating for Kids of age 3 to 11, an outside Campfire with a lot of family games, live entertainment, S’mores roasting and a cup of hot chocolate. As a host venue for the San Antonio Farmer’s Market, Market Square is a great place to check out fresh seasonal produce during winter.
