A Review of Horseshoe Ridge RV Resort in Wimberley TX

The primary reason for choosing Horseshoe Ridge RV Resort for our stay was its proximity to four major cities in Texas. But given the wonderful time we shared together, thanks to the super luxurious amenities and unique accommodation offerings, this might not be the only reason for our next visit to this place.

About 45 minutes northeast of San Antonio, this picturesque 31-acre property is easily accessible from I-10 and TX-21, with Austin, San Marcos, and New Braunfels being the other 3 major population centers. As for the unique name, being used as a racehorse training ranch for over 100 years makes sense.

Shaded by ancient oak trees and covering a sweeping 15-mile view of the rugged beauty of Texas hill country, Horseshoe Ridge RV Resort offers breath-taking vistas, luxurious amenities, and sleek modern facilities. With comfortable weather year-round and 233 sunny days, it’s a perfect spot to unwind and admire the natural wonders of the surrounding countryside while having an outdoor active lifestyle.

What Makes Horseshoe Ridge RV Resort Special?

Full Hook-Up Paved RV Sites

Let’s start with what truly makes Horseshoe Ridge RV Resort stand out among any other resort in Texas. From the moment we pulled into Horseshoe Ridge, 124 spacious RV sites captured our attention and we were super excited to try the living experience of these humble homes in a backdrop of lush native landscaping. Given my love for bluebonnets and how much I travel across Texas every year to admire their beauty, it was lovely waking up to the sight of bluebonnets and pink evening primrose blooming out from around the limestone outcrops. The mature oak trees provide ample shade that keeps you cool under the warm Texas sun.

The convenience of Horseshoe Ridge was evident from the start, and each of these paved RV sites was no exception. Each site had full hook-ups, including 20/30/50 amp electric, which made setting up our home on wheels a breeze. The park’s commitment to comfort and ease is clear, from clean environment to modern showers and restrooms.

What impressed me the most was the well-maintained and conveniently located laundry facility. When you’re on the road for a while, clean clothes can feel like a luxury, and this facility knows visitors’ needs.

Speaking of RV site facilities, each site has hardwired internet to the pedestal and free fiber Wi-Fi to ensure a reliable connection for all your online needs. This was particularly handy for uploading all the stunning photos I took during our stay!

It’s more than just an RV park; it’s an escape from city buzz. The serene environment and the park’s wide array of amenities make for a relaxing stay, especially for outdoor lovers.

Cabin Rentals

Perfectly centred on the ample shades of the surrounding oak trees, Horseshoe Ridge cabins are designed to be a home away from home. From the moment I stepped into our cozy cabin, I was impressed by how thoughtfully it was furnished. Each cabin includes a full bathroom stocked with complimentary soaps and shampoos. Television and free wifi access ensured we stayed entertained and connected.

During those scorching Texas afternoons, indoor air conditioning was a lifesaver, but the outdoor porch was my favorite spot to relax and unwind in the evenings.

Cooking your own meals during a getaway is yet another luxury, and Horseshoe Ridge RV Resort doesn’t even lack here, thanks to a full kitchen equipped with a microwave, stove, fridge, coffee maker, and more. We whipped up some of our favorite dishes in our cozy cabin setting without hassle. Before I forget to mention, you can choose from 3 cabin rental options to suit your needs.

Secretariat Cabin

This pet-friendly cabin sleeps up to four people, perfect for a small family or a couple’s getaway. We also chose this one; the layout was cozy yet spacious and felt just perfect for our little escape.

The Mingo Cabin

The Mingo Cabin is a fantastic choice for those with a larger group. Also pet-friendly, this cabin accommodates up to six people, providing ample space without compromising comfort.

Sea Biscuit Cabin

Lastly, the Sea Biscuit Cabin is another excellent option for groups of up to six. Pet-friendly and spacious, it offers the same high standard of comfort and convenience as the other cabins.

The Luxurious Five-Star Amenities

The Lounge

As they say, “first impression is the last impression.” Horseshoe Ridge RV Resort management must have kept that in mind when designing this place where the first encounter of every visitor will be. Picture a spacious indoor with a perfect blend of entertainment and relaxation.

When not in the mood to be in your room, you can lounge on the comfy couch and chat with fellow travelers. The pool table and shuffleboard were fantastic for friendly competitions, and I even got some work done in the business center (which is a surprise in such a place), equipped with a printer. The shared kitchen space was a nice touch, too, making it easy to prepare a quick snack or coffee.

Outdoor Patio

Horseshoe Ridge evenings were magical, thanks to the outdoor patio. This gathering spot provided a cozy ambiance perfect for meeting new friends and sharing stories under the stars. We used the patio grills well to make barbecues while enjoying the fresh air. The outdoor fireplace and comfortable furniture added to the charm, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Year-Round Swimming

If you’re like me and love swimming, the resort-style swimming pool at Horseshoe Ridge is the perfect place to soak up the sun or cool off from the Texas heat. There’s ample deck and sun space, so finding a relaxing spot was never an issue. Conveniently located near the Lounge, the Trading Post, and other outdoor activities, the pool area is a hub for water fun and relaxation under the sun.

Outdoor Activities

For those who can’t afford to miss workouts even on vacation, Horseshoe Ridge has a variety of outdoor activities to keep you active. My husband and I had a lot of fun playing cornhole and horseshoes, and a friendly competition over a few rounds of pickleball was amazing. The community fire pits were perfect for gathering in the evenings, roasting marshmallows, and sharing stories with fellow residents.

Convenience Store

One of Horseshoe Ridge’s most convenient features was the on-site convenience store, also known as the trading post I mentioned earlier. It was great having a little store stocked with all the essentials. The store had everything we needed: breakfast items, drinks, food, toys, games, souvenirs, toilet paper and even books. It was a relief to know we didn’t have to venture far to get it if we forgot anything.

Just give it a go through, you’ll definitely find something to take home.

Dog Park

Any dog owner will count it as a big plus point, as finding a pet-friendly facility is always a priority for them. The dog park is a fantastic addition, with lush tree shading. You can take leisurely strolls with your furry friend, enjoying the beauty of the surroundings while he happily explores the area.

Nearby Activities and Attractions

One of the best things about Horseshoe Ridge is its central location. The resort is just the beginning of the journey, positioned between Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and San Antonio. For us, the resort served as a perfect home base for many nearby attractions and natural wonders to explore. There’s a vibrant shopping scene, incredible natural sights, and a host of breweries, wineries (lucky me), and distilleries. Please check out the list below to discover more.

Blue Hole Regional Park

Blue Hole Regional Park is a scenic natural spring-fed swimming hole surrounded by towering cypress trees where you can swim and enjoy. The clear, cool water was refreshing on a hot Texas day. We spent a few hours here, swimming and lounging by the water. If you visit with kids, they’ll surely have a great time with a day of water fun, especially with the rope swings to splash into the water.

Jacob’s Well Natural Area

Jacob’s Well is truly a natural wonder, with a depth of around 140 feet and a length of approximately 4,500 feet. Swimming in such an exotic and beautiful setting was incredible. The well is surrounded by limestone cliffs and shaded by cypress trees, creating a picturesque photo backdrop.

We also enjoyed hiking around the area, enjoying the natural beauty and capturing stunning photos. The trails are well-marked, making exploring and appreciating the serene environment easy.

Old Baldy

For a workout with a fantastic reward, we climbed Old Baldy Mountain’s 218 rock steps. From the top, we had a breathtaking panoramic view of the Wimberley Valley.

Cypress Falls Swimming Hole

Cypress Falls Swimming Hole turned out to be a hidden gem that quickly became one of our favorite spots for water outings. The clear, spring-fed waters were perfect for swimming, floating and even fishing. What sets Cypress Falls apart from other attractions around Horseshoe Ridge RV Resort is the onsite bar offering beer and wine – a delightful surprise!

After a fun day on the water, it was a pleasure to unwind with our favorite drink in hand. Remember, a waiver must be signed by someone 18 or older to enjoy this spot. It’s a small formality for such a fantastic experience.

Blanco River

Kayaking the Blanco River was exciting. The clear waters provided stunning views of local wildlife and fish. Whether you’re a seasoned kayaker or a beginner, this river offers a one-of-a-kind adventure that shouldn’t be missed.
