Another great option is to craft your own wine at Water 2 Wine (need to schedule). Producing approximately 4200 bottles monthly, they offer personalized winemaking experiences. Jill, the in-house winemaker, provided fantastic guidance through the process. To make an appointment, just call 512-312-9890. This was one of my favorite things to do in Buda because it was such a unique experience!

One of the best things to do, is go to Antiques & More and dive into a journey through time, where every item tells a story of timeless beauty and historical significance. The expansive collection boasts a bunch of different antiques, each carefully curated to offer a captivating glimpse into the past. It’s one of the most unique things in the town of Buda and you’re sure to have so much fun!

Have a Meal at a Retro Diner at Dan’s Hamburgers

We enjoyed good food at Dan’s Hamburgers, an Austin tradition since 1973, which remains family-owned and operated. One of the most unique local restaurants, they offer a menu featuring tasty food like burgers, sandwiches, tenders, sides, shakes, and more, they are one of the best restaurants and are open from 6am to 5pm on Sundays and 6am to 9pm/10pm Mondays through Saturdays.

Meridian offers an extensive selection of coffees, coffee alternatives, teas, wellness shots, and medicinal tonics. Housed in a historic Mercantile building (my best place in Buda) with the second oldest working elevator in Texas, its artsy and unique vibe is something not to be missed.

Meridian is a popular choice for a hangout spot among the residents of Buda. The venue hosts regular special events such as poetry nights, open mic sessions, comedy shows, craft events, and more. It’s one of the most fun historic buildings you’ll ever come across!

​The prevailing theory behind the town’s new name suggests its origin from the Spanish word “viuda,” meaning widow. This change possibly stemmed from the town’s reputation as a favored dining spot for rail travelers. Lore hints at a duo of widows who once operated the kitchens at the Carrington Hotel during the 1880s.

Is Buda, Texas a good place to live?

Nestled in Hays County, Texas, a mere 14 miles from the bustling heart of downtown Austin, Buda beckons as an ideal residential haven. Boasting top-rated public schools, this charming town has garnered acclaim among families and young training professionals alike. It’s a coveted destination for those seeking a new place to call home.

What is a fun fact about Buda Texas?

Emerging along the path of the International-Great Northern Railroad, which stretched from Austin to San Antonio in 1880, the town of Buda has a rich history dating back to its inception. Initially christened “Du Pre” upon its establishment in 1881, the town retained this name until the autumn of 1887. Postal authorities intervened upon realizing the presence of another Texas town with the same name, prompting the adoption of the distinctive moniker “Buda.”

Gone, but not forgotten

Texas Honey Bee Farm’s physical store closed on November 22, 2025. The farm no longer works as an in-person tour or hive-viewing stop, though its honey is still sold through partner retailers.
