Crafty Things to Do in Tomball: Fun DIY Projects

I love crafting, so I’m always looking for creative opportunities when I travel. I’m always on the lookout for something artistic or hands-on! If it lets me dive into a DIY project I can bring home with me as a souvenir, I’m in. That’s why I was excited to find so many crafty things to do in Tomball.

Tomball turned out to be such a fun surprise in that department. Between shaping molten glass, customizing wood signs on the spot, and building your own terrarium, I found a mix of experiences I hadn’t seen all together in one small town.

There are so many crafty things to do in Tomball and each has its own vibe and artistic energy. I especially loved the diversity in the classes and how different each spot felt.

Maybe you’re planning a creative weekend, a hands-on date, or just want to try something different, these DIY projects in Tomball deliver more than just souvenirs-they give you something you personally crafted.

If you love the idea of personalizing your own craft-or if you’re the kind of person who spots something on Pinterest and says, “I could make that”-The Craft Chicks is it.

Their specialty is custom wood projects, and they’ve got a laser cutter that can turn just about anything you dream up into a stencil-ready masterpiece. I walked in without a solid idea and walked out with a custom ice cream sign to match the theme of our Airbnb, Casa Kumwesu. That kind of flexibility is rare, and it’s one of the reasons this spot stands out.

Beyond wood, they offer resin classes, cookie decorating, watercolor painting, and more.

There’s even a girly boutique in the front with sparkly bows, handmade goods, and seasonal kits. It’s part crafting space, part glittery wonderland-and fully welcoming for all skill levels.

They also offer BYOB nights, where you can bring wine and snacks to enjoy while crafting, along with drop-in sessions during specific hours if you want to create something spontaneous without a reservation.

The Craft Chicks hosts private events for birthdays, girls’ nights, and team-building experiences, and they also accept custom orders for handmade wood pieces if you have something special in mind.

Glassblowing Houston: Shape Molten Glass into Art

This one had me nervous at first (hello, 2,000-degree furnaces), but I’m so glad I tried it. Glassblowing Houston offers a hands-on class where you’ll use real tools, work near a blazing furnace, and create your own glass piece from start to finish. They’re known for their “make-a-something” classes, which are beginner-friendly but still feel impressive when you’re done.

We created a glass pumpkin and bowl with full guidance-adding color, shaping it with tools, and even working the pipe ourselves. You leave your creation behind to cure, but they’ll ship it if you’re not local.

Important Note: it takes about 48 hours before you can pick it up, so plan ahead if you’re only in town for the weekend.

In addition to glassblowing, the studio also offers kiln-based experiences, which use a special oven to slowly fuse glass at lower temperatures. These classes focus more on shaping and layering techniques, offering a different way to work with glass than the high-heat, molten method.

Even if you don’t book a class, you can stop by and watch the live demos for free. Watching glowing glass morph into swirled artwork is mesmerizing all on its own.
