Festival de Danza Folklórico (Free)

This multi-day event invites friends, families, and communities to gather at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum and honor the lives of loved ones by creating altars or ofrendas meant to welcome spirits. PPHM will feature Ofrendas from different school and community groups throughout the museum for visitors to experience the rich traditions of Día de los Muertos as part of regular admission. Mexic-Arte Museum’s 41st Annual Viva La Vida Festival and Parade is Austin’s most extensive and longest-running Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) event. Presented in collaboration with the Austin Convention Center and the City of Austin, you can look forward to a grand procession, engaging art activities, Costume Contest, delicious food, local artists and retail booths, a captivating low-rider exhibition, and electrifying live performance by Austin Lowriding. Take a leisurely stroll through the historic district, where you can party with larger-than-life Puppets, strike a pose with Monsters, and marvel at the vibrant and artistic displays paying homage to the rich cultural traditions of Día de los Muertos. The excitement kicks off at 2:00 with a lively parade featuring the Giant Puppets, Gabby’s Auto Show, and the spectacular DFW Caballos Bailadores de Dallas.

Get your face painted, browse the Arts and Crafts Mercado, and indulge in tasty treats at the Food Court. And that’s not all – be sure to catch the La Catrina El Catrin Costume Contest for a chance to show off your creative spirit! This year’s theme, Raíces Ancestrales/Ancestral Roots, will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the region from the past to the present. Hosted by the City Of El Paso Museums And Cultural Affairs Department, the festivities will include stunning day of the dead altars adorned with cempasúchil, sugar skulls, pan de muerto, papel picado, and the favorite treats of the departed.

Join in for family-friendly art activities, delicious food, live music, and much more! The highlight of the event will be the lively PARADE starting at 4 pm on E. Concordia Cemetery

During the Concordia Día de Los Muertos Festival, you’ll find vendors, booths, decorated altars, live music, dancing, and a tempting array of food trucks in the Buffalo Soldier Memorial lot. In honor of the Day of the Dead traditions, ofrendas are welcome in designated areas. There will also be a community ofrenda just inside the main gate for the public to contribute photos and meaningful gifts. General admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children. Elgin

Downtown Elgin (Free)

Traditional altars will be on display downtown at the Clever Tiger, 114 Depot Street, and a Community Altar will be set up for families at Dia de los Muertos Festival & Parade in Elgin. The festival will feature a lively mariachi band, Ballet Folklorico dancers, fire dancers, Aztec Dancers, and more! You can also explore Mexican-themed markets offering delicious food, beautiful clothing, and unique arts and crafts. Don’t miss the exciting costume parade starting at the library at 6:15 PM, and be sure to check out the painted sugar skulls and other crafts at the Elgin Library from 5:00 PM onwards.

Elgin Public Library 

Don’t miss the Day of the Dead Festival at the main library following the 5K Race! Enjoy the presentation of ofrenda elements, temporary tattoo stations, a craft, and a photo booth with our catrinas. Vendors will have ofrenda elements available for purchase. Groove to the live music by Yael Xolalpa and Chaparrita de Oro-Xitlali, the U-46 Mariachi High School, and Joya Dorada. Don’t forget to dress to impress for our costume contests – open to all ages! Indulge in champurrado and sweet bread while getting a first look at the fantastic cultural Olmec heads, which will be on display before the Olmec Origins exhibit officially opens! Farmers Branch

Farmers Branch Historical Park (Free)

This local event will include live music and dance performances, Loteria, kid’s crafts, and a featured airbrush artist. There will also be a beautiful community altar in the Old Church where you can pay your respects and honor your own beloved family and friends. Notecards, candles, and flowers will be provided for guests to place on the altar, and you’re welcome to bring duplicate photos or mementos to add to our community altar. While the items won’t be returned, they will be cherished as we come together to remember and celebrate. Dow School in Houston’s Old Sixth Ward (Free)

MECA’s Dia de Muertos Festival combines pre-Colombian heritage with Catholic influences. It will feature arts and crafts, an ofrenda exhibition, festival foods, and three performance stages for live entertainment. In its twenty-third year, MECA’s event has blossomed into a month-long celebration of culture and art. It showcases beautiful altar exhibitions, engaging community workshops, and a vibrant two-day festival.

Mission Marquee Plaza (Free)

In this celebration, the descendants of the city’s historic Missions will gather and tell tales of family and community that span generations. You are welcome to participate by sharing photos and memories of your loved ones in a special remembrance tribute at Mission Marquee Plaza. There will also be activities on-site.
