Houston Glassblowing isn’t your typical artsy stop. It’s a hands-on, heat-filled, molten magic kind of experience. Tucked away in Tomball, TX, this studio is where fire meets finesse. The cool things is that as a visitor, even if you’re a beginner, get to try creating your own piece. Whether you’re searching for glassblowing classes near Houston or a unique art activity in Tomball, this spot delivers.
As Texas’ top award-winning travel blogger, I recently visited the studio as part of our trip to Tomball! I knew I was going to have fun, but I didn’t expect to have THIS much fun!
To me what stands out vs so many other glass blowing studios is the amount of different projects (what they call make-a-somethings) you can do! I’ve seen plenty of places offering paper weights, but the flowers, pumpkins, bowls, etc really give you the chance to create something that you want.
What Is Houston Glassblowing?
This working glass studio and gallery in Tomball offers the chance to watch live demos or create your very own blown glass masterpiece. They call the DIY projects “make-a-somethings,” which range from cups to pumpkins to flowers. It’s perfect for visitors of all skill levels, from first-timers to those who’ve taken more advanced glass art classes in Tomball.

What You Can Expect During a Visit
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with wonder and uncertainty. The open layout lets you watch professional glassblowers at work while you wait for your turn (or just come to observe). If you’re looking for hands-on activities in Tomball, this is one of the best options.
We chose a hands-on session where we got to shape molten glass into a piece of art. With expert guidance and lots of heat, it was equal parts mesmerizing and empowering. Our instructor walked us through each step, so it never felt overwhelming and crazy enough in just one hour, we had created two pieces (30 minutes per project)!

We got to do everything from putting on the glass to add the color, actually standing in front of the furnaces turning our glass, shaping it, and everything in between. We ended up walking away with a glass pumpkin and glass bowl.
Pro tip: Wear closed-toe shoes and dress in lightweight clothes as it gets hot in there. You can bring your own glasses/sunglasses or they’ll provide protective eyewear if needed.
You might also see their cute dog Shadow around. If you don’t like dogs, don’t worry though. They’ll make sure she’s not around.
Watching a Glassblowing Demo (Also Free!)
Even if you don’t sign up for a class, it’s worth stopping by to watch the live glassblowing demos near Houston. Seeing glowing blobs of glass turn into elegant bowls or swirling flowers is a form of artistry all on its own. It’s free to watch and perfect if you’re on a budget but still want to experience something cool (and very Tomball).
Classes and Projects Offered
Houston Glassblowing in Tomball offers a variety of hands-on projects for every skill level. Their popular Make-a-Something classes are designed for beginners, but you still leave with a custom creation you made yourself—yes, even if you’ve never touched molten glass before.
Make-a-Somethings (Beginner-Friendly Projects):
- Glass bowl
- Cups
- Pumpkin
- Flower
- Ornament
- Glass egg

These projects are quick (around 15–30 minutes each) and perfect for families, date nights, or anyone looking for a unique souvenir.
Getting More in Depth
However, if you want to get a little more creative with a project that takes more time, you can choose from a whole array of other items.
- Large glass pumpkins (great for fall)
- Blown cowboy hats (a true Texas favorite)
- Seasonal items like snowmen, holiday trees, and Easter eggs
- Kiln-fired glass projects

Collaborate on a comissioned piece: One of the other cool things that you can do which is unique here is that if you want to have a comissioned piece, but you also want to be a part of making the piece, you can work together to create the piece with an experienced artist!
Pro tip: Some seasonal and advanced projects are only available during certain months or by request, so it’s worth calling ahead or checking their social pages for the latest offerings.
Check Out the Glass Art Gallery
In addition to its interactive classes, Houston Glassblowing also features an on-site art gallery showcasing beautifully crafted glass pieces by resident and guest artists.
