Become Your Own Winemaker at Water 2 Wine in Buda TX

As someone who loves wine and learning all about the process, one thing I’ve always had on my bucket list is learning about the winemaking process in my own hands on process! So during our trip to Buda, TX I learned that there is a place where you can make your own wine at Water 2 Wine!

Water 2 Wine is a small chain with locations in New Braunfels, Austin, and Buda, TX! Since we were in Buda to put together one of our epic itineraries, this is where we made wine! Each winery operates a little differently, but this is what we did at Water 2 Wine.

Winemaking Options at Water 2 Wine Buda TX

Water 2 Wine actually offers three different winemaking options to fit your own schedule and budget.

Full Make Your Own Wine Process

Water 2 Wine has a full wine making process where you work with the team to do a tasting and decide what kind of wine you would like to make. You can opt for blends, sweet wines, and other different wines. You then come with up to 4 people and make your wine.

Each winemaking process is slightly different based on what wine you choose. Some are more simple, while others are slightly more complex, but overall it’s something any beginner can do.

Once you are done making the wine, you wait 6-8 weeks before coming back in to bottle the wine where you might choose to bring a bigger group to bottle 28 wine bottles.

This whole process allows you to walk away with 28 bottles. People often opt to do this if they want their own wine for weddings or special events and to make it an experience.

However, if you don’t have the time for the full experience, they also offer a custom labeling option so you can try a wine you like and then put your own label on it. We put a picture on our wine we made from Canva, but there are also a lot of cute Etsy templates that can be made for you.

Just Make Wine

At this time, this option is not listed on their website so you may have to call ahead. Since we were only in town for the week, we weren’t sure if we would have the chance to come back to Buda for the bottling phase (and we also didn’t need 28 bottles of wine). We just wanted the experience of making wine! So we opted for this experience + the bottling experience just to feel like winemakers.

In this experience you get to work with a winemaker to make one of the wines they sell in their shop! Each wine is different based on what they need and what you want. Some are more complex and some are more simple, but they overall take about 2-3 hours.

This experience involves blending grapes and skins and other flavorings and essentially taking grape juice to alcohol!

Note: Don’t be like me and wear a dress unless you want grape juice all over you lol!

Wine Bottling Experience

The wine bottling experience is fairly simple, but it’s so fun to see how wine is bottled. From filling up the bottle, adding the cork, heating up the little paper to create the seal, and more, you get to learn about the whole winemaking experience.

Since we knew we wouldn’t be able to do the full 6-8 week process, it’s kind of like we jumped ahead right into it but using a wine batch that had already sat for those 6-8 weeks.

After these experiences you can choose to take a bottle or more home. You can choose to take a wine you bottled or any of their vast list of wines. The fun of this for us was that we had made little labels of our own. We had bottled a sangria so opted for a bottle of that and also a white wine. This was actually an anniversary date so we ended up making a cute anniversary label. Now the problem is it’s almost too pretty to drink!
