What is the Experience Like at Doc’s Drive In?
From the moment you arrive at Doc’s Drive In Theatre, you’re transported to a time when drive-in movies were the pinnacle of weekend entertainment. The theatre’s meticulous attention to detail in design and atmosphere creates an immersive experience that goes beyond just watching a movie. One of our favorite parts was the way that they played all of the old school commercials before the show.
The drive-in itself contains two different screens so that two different movies play anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour apart. Most people go in their vehicle where they can watch it from their car, but there’s also a public viewing deck.

Here at Doc’s Drive-In in Buda, they typically focus on old school movies vs new releases. Their calendar has 3-4 different movies played each month from some of the top classics like ET, Jaws, Bring It On, and more.

Food Options at Doc’s Drive In
Doc’s Drive In has all of the food options you would expect from a typical movie theater like big bowls of popcorn, pickles, and candy. They also have burgers, pizza, nachos, and fries. I can’t miss out on some loaded fries with bacon and cheese so those hit the spot. I also thought it was cute they had s’mores kits and root beer floats (on top of a whole other list). They do have vegetarian and vegan options included vegan wings and impossible burgers.

Mama Merlot’s Speakeasy
One of the really unique features that this drive-in has is the speakeasy on-site. The interior is filled with vibrant colors but with the moody lighting. You can grab some high quality drinks (I opted for an espresso martini so I wouldn’t fall asleep during the movie and it was great!).
If you didn’t want to watch a movie, but just wanted to enjoy some craft cocktails this is a great place to visit. Additionally, Mama Merlot’s in Buda, TX has their own list of events including trivia nights, a cabaret show, live music, tastings, and so much more.
Events at Doc’s Drive In
In additional to events at Mama Merlot’s you can enjoy special events that can be found on the Doc’s Drive In calendar.

Another thing that makes Doc’s Drive In so unique is their on-site Airbnbs. Located right behind the drive-in, they have all different tiny homes that have a movie theme! When staying at these Airbnbs, you also get free popcorn and discounted movie tickets. The best part though after you finish the movie and you’re all sleepy is that you only have to drive 1 minute away before falling in bed!
Each of the Airbnbs are so uniquely themed after movies and it’s like getting to immerse yourself in that movie. The attention to detail with all the different tiny homes are so impressive. You can click below to read about each one!
