A Quaint Retreat Right Outside of Dallas – Hoefer House in Ennis Texas

While attending the Ennis Bluebonnet Festival in Ennis Texas, I had the pleasure of staying at the beautiful Hoefer House bed and breakfast. Located just a walk away from the downtown square, the Hoefer House makes a great couples retreat, ladies weekend getaway, girls’ sleepover, or space for any special occasion.

Perched in the historic district, the owners have fabulously decorated the house to maintain its vintage charm with modern touches.

Ennis is famous for the trails of bluebonnets, pops of blue, wildflower artwork, and pieces that show the culture of Ennis line the house! I couldn’t wait to check in!

After a long week of work, I was ready to settle into the quiet town of Ennis and focus on nothing else but decompressing. My husband and I pulled onto the road filled with historic homes before reaching the Hoefer House, prominent by the bright green door.

We were met by a woman who led us inside to show us around. We were fortunate to learn that out of the three rooms, one room was not booked and the tenant of the other which was rented on a longer term basis was out of town. This meant we had full reign of the house for the day!

As soon as we walked in I was immediately in awe of the vintage chic charm. Wood walls with exposed brick details, dreamy chandeliers, and eclectic blue bonnet decor filled the house.

Every detail of the house was thoughtfully curated from the artwork with the major Ennis landmarks, to the fully restored iron clawfoot tub.

We stayed in the gorgeous bluebonnet room, appropriately named for the beautifully themed decor. I loved the deep blue tones paired with the bright whites and large windows. The vintage suitcases and chalk paint furniture added the perfect touches for a unique space! With aching feet, I promptly plopped into the bed for an afternoon nap. This was a quaint vacation that I planned to spend in bliss.

Upon happily awaking from my doze, my husband and I borrowed the bikes that the Hoefer House had onsite to head for a peaceful ride through downtown and to enjoy the bluebonnet festival. At night we returned to a place that felt like home, to fall back onto a mattress so so soft I thought it might engulf me through the night.

Of course we slept in! In pajamas, we sat in the living room reading magazines and looking out on the serene neighborhood. The Hoefer House provides local pastries, and so we munched on kolaches and a quiche.

Saying goodbye to our lovely retreat was hard. However, the beauty of finding a gem only 30 minutes from home meant that we didn’t have to worry about a lengthy drive, or flight, in a confined space and were able to return refreshed that Sunday to still get work done. The Hoefer house is so refreshingly peaceful and the vintage decor transports you to a simpler time that really allowed my husband and I to focus on quality time together in a cozy space. Whenever I’m looking for a serene getaway, or maybe some vintage inspiration, the Hoefer House is at the top of my list.
