What to Watch After the 2026 World Cup: A Texas Soccer Guide

As the 2026 Men’s World Cup comes to an end on July 19, this is actually just the beginning.

While the World Cup is truly something exciting to watch, it’s still only a small part of the entire soccer/fútbol world.

If the tournament got you interested in soccer for the first time, you don’t have to wait four years to watch again.

Texas has several men’s and women’s professional club teams, and some of the players you just watched representing their countries already play here. FC Dallas sent Petar Musa with Croatia, Don Deedson with Haiti and Herman Johansson with Sweden to the 2026 World Cup. Austin FC’s Jayden Nelson represented Canada and became the first active Austin FC player to compete at a World Cup. Houston Dash players Jane Campbell and Avery Patterson have also represented the United States women’s national team. The next local match you attend could include someone you recently watched on the international stage.

Then, in November and December, Mansfield and Houston will host the Concacaf W Championship which is the region’s qualifying tournament for both the 2027 Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games. Can you believe the United States, Mexico, Canada and other women’s national teams will be playing those high-stakes qualifying matches here in Texas? You’ll be able to watch part of the road to the next Women’s World Cup without leaving the state.

And if the World Cup introduced you to players like Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal, Erling Haaland or Jude Bellingham, I’ll show you how to keep following them when they return to their club teams. I’m also including local supporter groups and Texas watch spots so you can continue watching with other fans.

Think of this as your bridge from the World Cup into everything that comes next: Texas club soccer, international matches, women’s qualifiers, European leagues and the local communities already gathering around the game.

Upcoming Soccer Games in Texas After the World Cup

Its four quarterfinal winners qualify directly for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, while the two December 2 play-in winners advance to FIFA’s intercontinental playoff tournament.

What Happens After the World Cup?

The World Cup is a national-team competition. Players represent their countries during the tournament, but most spend the rest of the year playing for professional clubs.

After the final, several parts of the soccer calendar begin or resume.

Timeline of what happens after the World Cup: MLS returns, Leagues Cup, European seasons, Champions League, and international windows

Major League Soccer returns after its World Cup pause

MLS league play resumes on July 16 and 17 after the World Cup pause. The three Texas clubs return on July 22, then continue playing league matches through MLS Decision Day on November 7.

Leagues Cup begins

Leagues Cup places MLS clubs against Liga MX clubs. Unlike a normal MLS match, it gives Texas fans the opportunity to watch teams from Mexico without traveling internationally.

Texas will host Querétaro, Club Tijuana, Puebla and Club América during the first stage of the 2026 tournament.

European leagues begin new seasons

The Premier League in England and La Liga in Spain begin their 2026–27 seasons in August. World Cup players will return to clubs including Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Champions League begins in September

The UEFA Champions League is a competition between leading European clubs rather than national teams. Players who faced each other during the World Cup may become teammates again or meet while representing their clubs.

National teams return during international windows

Professional club seasons pause several times each year so players can return to their national teams. These periods can include friendlies, Nations League games and qualifying matches.

Additional United States, Mexico and other national-team friendlies may be announced later. We don’t know yet which teams will return to Texas, so I’ll add them only after a federation, club or venue confirms the match.

International Soccer Games Coming to Texas in 2026

Wide view of a Gold Cup soccer match at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas

Texas already has Liga MX clubs coming for Leagues Cup and women’s national teams coming for the Concacaf W Championship.

FC Dallas vs. Querétaro in Mansfield

FC Dallas will face Liga MX club Querétaro on August 5 at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium.

This is FC Dallas’ only opening-stage Leagues Cup match in Texas. The club’s other matches are scheduled against Chivas in California and Toluca in Mexico.

The tournament match gives North Texas fans the opportunity to attend an international club competition involving teams from the United States and Mexico.

Austin FC vs. Club Tijuana

Austin FC will host Club Tijuana on August 6 at Q2 Stadium.

Club Tijuana, commonly known as Xolos, competes in Liga MX and represents Tijuana, Baja California. This will be the first of three Liga MX opponents scheduled to visit Austin during the initial stage of Leagues Cup.

Austin FC vs. Puebla

Puebla will play Austin FC at Q2 Stadium on August 9.

The match falls during the second round of the Leagues Cup opening stage and provides another opportunity to see a Mexican professional club in Texas.

Austin FC vs. Club América

Austin FC will host Club América on August 13 at Q2 Stadium.

Club América is one of the most widely followed and successful teams in Mexican soccer. Because of its large fan base in both Mexico and the United States, this is likely to be one of the highest-demand Texas soccer games after the World Cup.

Austin is currently the only Texas city scheduled to host three different Liga MX clubs during the opening stage of Leagues Cup.

Barcelona and Real Madrid’s rivalry is known as El Clásico and it is one of the most watched club matches in the world. A few years back, I watched them play at AT&T Stadium. It is one of my favorite reminders that major international clubs do return to Texas for preseason tours and exhibitions, so the World Cup may not be your last chance to see your favorite players here.

Al Nassr reached last season’s AFC Champions League Two final, so future continental competition could also take the club to other countries across Asia once the next draw and schedule are confirmed. You may also recognize his Al Nassr teammates João Félix, Kingsley Coman and Sadio Mané.
