I didn’t know much about Martin Dies Jr. State Park when I first decided to book a stay there. At first, I was a little put off by the name. It sounded so dreary until I learned that the man’s name was actually Martin Dies. After a visit, Martin Dies Jr. State Park has become one of my favorites.
We took the Trophy Nissan Pathfinder out for an incredible trip in nature while still having the comfort of our SUV. We got a blow-up mattress and even though it was a little chilly, we had the heater and our blow-up mattress. It took no time at all to set up our campsite and at night we enjoyed looking through the sunroof to the stars. One night when it rained, having the comfort of our SUV to stay dry was so nice. Overall, car camping might be my new favorite way to camp.
We visited Martin Dies Jr. State Park in the fall, and while it’s stunning anytime of the year, fall is something special. The trees turn orange and yellow. It’s so easy to take advantage of the different hiking trails and enjoying the trees all around.
Even more stunning is being along the lake. Martin Dies Jr. State Park is beautiful just for sitting and relaxing by the water. There are trails that follow the lake as well as an island trail that crosses over a bridge onto a small piece of land over the water.
However, the best views come by paddling. In addition to the different hiking trails, Martin Dies Jr. State Park has different paddling trails. If you want the best scenery, go at sunrise in the fall when the fog rises over the water and the sky and water are full of colors. Martin Dies Jr. State Park has canoes for rent, but you might have to bring your own to get there early enough for views like this.
You could spend so much time at Martin Dies Jr. State Park just taking in all of the beauty. Some of the best sunrises come with all of the water all around. There’s something peaceful about being in nature. We used the opportunity to make a full wellness retreat out of it. Martin Dies Jr. State Park is something that you don’t want to miss out on.
